The Post Office at Pollards Tavern - 1803
Boston Road
Nashua's first mail system started in 1803 when the mail was brought to a tavern in Dunstable on 'the lower Boston Road' a.k.a. 'The Great Road' and 'Boston Post Road' (today's Main Street). General Noah Lovewell was appointed Nashua's first Postmaster. The first registered April-June quarters end profits in 1803 was US20 cents!

The house on the right belongs to Israel Hunt. Interestingly, the house on the left belongs to John M. Hunt.

The first formal mail office was started in this home and store of John M. Hunt. John Hunt became Nashua's second Postmaster in 1820.

This illustration is from the 1883 Map of Nashua. This building was destroyed by fire in 1961 and the Allen Building was erected in its place.
The Court Street Post Office - 1906
Court Street
This location was the first building created specifically for Nashua postal service. This beautiful building was demolished in 1970 during construction of the Nashua Public Library. It was located in the library's current courtyard.
The Spring Street Post Office - 1963

The United States Post Office located on Spring Street was built in 1963 and is Nashua's primary postal center. There have been branch centers added to help facilitate the millions of pieces of mail moving yearly through Nashua today.
The Social Security Office

The Social Security Office was located in the 1940 JJ Newbury Company Building for many years before it was moved to Amherst Street in 2001. The photo below shows how Main Street looked before this building was placed.
Town Hall - Municipal Records Building

This photograph was taken around 1900. The tiny building in the middle of the first City Hall and the Odd Fellows building is the Municipal Records building. It seems both city buildings were taken out in 1939.
